Receiving and Processing Amazon Removal Shipments
Amazon charges long-term storage fees that escalate every month inventory sits unsold past 181 days. At the 271-day mark, aged inventory fees jump to $6.90 per cubic foot per month on top of standard monthly storage. For sellers with slow-moving SKUs, seasonal products, or overstock from a bad forecast, those fees stack up fast. Bulk removal is the escape valve. MeisterPrep receives Amazon FBA removal shipments at all four of our US warehouses: Long Beach CA, Des Plaines IL, Houston TX, and Charleston SC. We set up as your removal order destination address in Seller Central. When you create a removal order, Amazon ships your inventory to our facility. We receive it, inspect it, count it, and hold it until you decide the next step: relist to FBA, sell on another channel, export internationally, liquidate, or donate. We process removal orders ranging from 50 units to 50,000+ units per batch. Average turnaround from receipt to inspection-complete is 48-72 hours for standard volumes. For large-scale removals during Amazon's inventory cleanup windows (typically January and July), we dedicate receiving lanes and add temporary staff to handle the surge. Sellers who wait until the fee deadline to create removal orders often find that Amazon's own removal processing takes 10-14 business days, so we recommend initiating removals at least 3 weeks before the next fee assessment date.
What Happens After Amazon Ships Your Removal
Amazon removal shipments arrive in mixed cartons with minimal labeling. Unlike a clean inbound shipment from your supplier, removal orders often contain multiple SKUs per box, loose items, and products in varying condition. Our receiving team opens each carton, scans every unit by FNSKU or ASIN, and sorts by SKU and condition grade. We use a four-tier grading system: sellable (can go back to FBA or another channel as-is), refurbishable (needs repackaging or relabeling), damaged (product defect or physical damage), and unsellable (expired, recalled, or too damaged to resell). You receive a detailed inventory report with counts and grades within 72 hours of receipt. This report breaks down by SKU, showing exactly how many units fall into each grade category, which gives you the data to make informed disposition decisions rather than guessing at what came back.
