Your Apparel Fulfillment Services Partner
Apparel fulfillment has problems that do not exist in other product categories. A t-shirt folded wrong creates a crease that triggers a return. A shoe box shipped without void fill arrives crushed. A retail PO to Walmart with even one mislabeled size gets charged back. Color variants multiply your SKU count fast, and returns run at 20-30% for online apparel sales compared to the 5-8% average across other categories. MeisterPrep runs apparel fulfillment from four US warehouses -- Long Beach, Des Plaines, Houston, and Charleston -- with garment storage systems, poly bagging stations, and returns processing areas in each facility. We work with fashion brands on Amazon FBA, Walmart, TikTok Shop, Shopify D2C, B2B wholesale to boutiques and department stores, and direct import operations bringing garments from overseas manufacturers.
How We Handle Apparel Inventory
Every apparel SKU goes through four stages built around the specific handling needs of garments, footwear, and fashion accessories.
Receiving with Size/Color Verification and Quality Check
Apparel receiving requires more verification steps than hard goods. Our team checks each inbound shipment against the purchase order by style, size, color, and quantity. We inspect for manufacturing defects (loose stitching, stains, wrong labels), verify that hang tags and care labels are attached and correct, and confirm that size runs match what was ordered. For imports, we check that country-of-origin labels, fiber content labels, and any required compliance markings (CPSC for children’s apparel, CA Prop 65 where applicable) are present. Garments that arrive on hangers go directly to our GOH (garment-on-hanger) storage system. Folded goods are sorted by style-size-color and placed in bin or shelf locations. Standard apparel shipments are received and put away within one to two business days.
Organized Storage by Style, Size, and Color
Apparel SKU counts grow fast. A single t-shirt style in 5 sizes and 4 colors is 20 SKUs. Multiply that across your catalog and picking accuracy becomes a real challenge without proper organization. Our warehouses use a combination of GOH racking for items that need to stay wrinkle-free (dresses, blazers, outerwear, dress shirts) and shelving or bin systems for folded goods (t-shirts, jeans, underwear, socks). Each location is mapped in our WMS by style, then size, then color, so pickers can find the exact variant quickly. Footwear goes on purpose-built shoe racks that keep boxes organized and accessible without stacking damage. This storage approach keeps our apparel pick accuracy rate above 99.7% even during peak season volumes.
Channel-Specific Prep and Retail-Ready Packaging
Each sales channel has specific packaging and labeling requirements for apparel. Amazon FBA requires FNSKU labels, poly bagging for most garments, and suffocation warnings on poly bags. We handle all of this in-house. For Walmart, we build retail-ready case packs sorted by size, apply GS1-128 shipping labels, and transmit ASNs through EDI. TikTok Shop orders get packed to the platform’s shipping standards, and Shopify D2C orders ship in your branded packaging with tissue paper, stickers, or promotional inserts when requested. B2B wholesale orders to boutiques and department stores are packed per each buyer’s spec sheet with correct carton markings, packing lists, and UCC-128 labels. For garments that ship on hangers, we use garment bags and hanger boxes to prevent transit damage.
Returns Processing and Back-to-Stock
Apparel returns run at 20-30% for e-commerce orders, which is two to four times the rate of most other product categories. Your 3PL needs to process returns fast and get sellable units back into inventory before they become dead stock. When a return arrives at our warehouse, we inspect the garment for wear, washing, stains, odors, missing tags, and damage. Items that pass inspection are refolded or re-hung, repackaged in new poly bags if needed, and returned to sellable inventory within 48 hours. Items that fail inspection are separated by reason code (worn, damaged, wrong item) and held for your disposition instructions. We track return rates by SKU, size, and reason code in your monthly reports, so you can spot product issues or sizing problems before they become expensive patterns.
Garment-on-Hanger Storage and Handling
Not every warehouse has the infrastructure to store garments on hangers. Standard pallet racking does not work for dresses, suits, or outerwear. Our facilities have GOH sections with rolling racks and fixed garment rails built for high-density hanger storage. This keeps garments wrinkle-free and cuts the labor cost of steaming or pressing items that were stored folded. For brands with a mix of GOH and folded items, we set up your inventory across both storage types based on product requirements. GOH capacity across our four warehouses can handle over 50,000 hanging units at once.
Returns Processing at E-Commerce Scale
With apparel returns running at 20-30% of online orders, your returns processing needs to be fast, accurate, and data-driven. We process the average apparel return within 48 hours of receipt, so your customer gets their refund quickly and sellable inventory gets back into stock before it ages out. Our grading criteria are set up per your brand's standards. Some clients accept items with removed hang tags; others do not. Some allow minor packaging damage; others require perfect presentation. Whatever your standards, we apply them consistently across all four locations. The return data we collect feeds directly into your monthly reports, giving you visibility into which styles, sizes, and channels generate the most returns.
Walmart and Retail Compliance for Fashion Brands
Getting apparel into Walmart, TikTok Shop, or other major retail channels requires meeting specific packaging, labeling, and shipping standards. Walmart's routing guide for apparel specifies case configurations, label placement, poly bag requirements, and pallet build standards. Getting any of these wrong results in chargebacks, sometimes 3-5% of the PO value. Our team builds every retail shipment to the current version of each retailer's guidelines and verifies compliance before the shipment leaves our dock. For brands new to retail distribution, we review the routing guide with you and set up SOPs before your first order ships.
Peak Season Scalability for Fashion Brands
Fashion brands deal with seasonal demand swings that can be dramatic. Black Friday, holiday gifting, back-to-school, and new collection launches can triple or quadruple your normal order volume within a matter of days. With four warehouse locations, MeisterPrep can distribute your inventory geographically to reduce shipping times and spread peak-season volume across multiple facilities. We also scale labor up for peak periods based on your forecast, so orders keep shipping same-day even when volume spikes. Brands that plan their peak inventory placement with us at least 30 days in advance see the best results for delivery speed and shipping costs during high-volume periods.
