Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) is Amazon’s service that lets sellers use their FBA inventory to fulfill orders from sales channels outside of Amazon. A customer buys a product on Shopify, eBay, Walmart.com, or a seller’s own website, and Amazon picks, packs, and ships the order from its fulfillment centers. The seller does not need a separate warehouse or fulfillment partner for each channel.

How MCF Works

The process starts with inventory already stored in Amazon’s FBA network. When an order comes in from an external channel, the seller submits a fulfillment request through Seller Central, the MCF API, or a third-party integration tool. Amazon receives the request, pulls the product from its shelves, packs it, and ships it to the customer. Tracking information flows back to the seller, who forwards it to the customer through their non-Amazon sales channel.

Orders submitted before 2:00 PM local fulfillment center time typically ship the same day. Amazon offers three MCF speed tiers: Standard (3 to 5 business days), Expedited (2 business days), and Priority (1 business day). Each tier carries a different fee, with Priority costing roughly 50% more than Standard for the same item.

Fee Structure

MCF fees are higher than standard FBA fulfillment fees. For a small standard-size item, FBA might charge $3.22 per unit for an Amazon.com order. The same item fulfilled through MCF at Standard speed costs approximately $4.85. Expedited bumps it to around $6.20, and Priority runs close to $8.50. These numbers vary by item size, weight, and whether the order is single-unit or multi-unit.

Multi-unit orders get a discount. If a customer orders three items in a single MCF submission, the per-unit fulfillment cost drops because Amazon can pack them in one box. Sellers processing high volumes of multi-item orders see better MCF economics than those shipping mostly single units.

Branding Limitations

One persistent concern with MCF is packaging. Amazon historically shipped MCF orders in Amazon-branded boxes, which created an awkward experience for customers who purchased from a seller’s Shopify store and received an Amazon box. Amazon introduced a blank, unbranded packaging option for MCF orders, which is now the default for most external channel fulfillment. Sellers should verify their MCF settings to confirm unbranded packaging is active, as some older accounts may still default to branded boxes.

Integration Options

Manual MCF order submission through Seller Central works for low-volume sellers, but anyone processing more than 20 external orders per day needs automation. Several platforms offer direct MCF integration. Shopify has native apps that connect to Amazon’s MCF API. WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and other platforms have similar plugins. Third-party tools like Pipe17, ByteStand, and Webgility automate the order routing so that external sales trigger MCF fulfillment requests without manual intervention.

The API allows sellers to check inventory levels, submit fulfillment orders, track shipments, and handle cancellations programmatically. Sellers with custom-built order management systems can connect directly using Amazon’s Selling Partner API (SP-API) documentation.

When MCF Makes Sense

MCF is a strong fit for sellers who already use FBA as their primary fulfillment method and want to expand to additional sales channels without investing in separate warehousing. It eliminates the need to split inventory between Amazon and a third-party fulfillment center, which reduces the risk of stockouts on any single channel.

Sellers who need custom packaging, branded inserts, or product bundling beyond what Amazon supports should consider a prep center like MeisterPrep for their non-Amazon fulfillment. MCF does not accommodate custom pack-outs, kitting, or marketing inserts. What arrives at the customer’s door is a standard Amazon-style shipment in a plain brown box.

For sellers with high non-Amazon volume (more than 50% of sales outside Amazon), a dedicated 3PL may offer better per-unit economics than MCF. The service works best as a supplement for sellers whose primary channel is Amazon and whose external sales represent a smaller share of total volume.
